Walkthrough Setting Social Media API/IDs for Personal Social Media Sharing

  • There are times you want your site users to share your website content (usually articles, stories, blogs, news, etc) to their social media accounts.  This type of functionality requires you to setup API accounts with those specific social media services. Connecting your site content with the site users social accounts

  • In order for the pages designed in Site Stacker to be shared on social media, we would need the API IDs for those social networks. Each type of social media has a different method of setting up the account and getting the needed IDs for Site Stacker. Below are the different services that are supported by Site Stacker and the steps in getting the right account and  IDs. Only set up the apps that are needed by your ministry.

Facebook

  • To start, navigate your browser to the Facebook Developers page. You'll need to login to your Facebook account.

  • Click the "Add a New App" link in the top right "My Apps" menu.

  • Once you've clicked on "Add a New App", a modal box will appear asking you to enter a name for your app and your email address. Pick a simple name, like your website's domain or name.

  • After you've filled in the details to create a New App ID, you'll be taken to the new App's Dashboard. You'll find the App ID and Secret Key under Settings -> Basic. NOTE: Facebook has certain API rate limits. Using your own Facebook App can lead to reaching these limits if your website sees high traffic. This is highly unlikely but is possible. If you do reach your limit, you will get an email from Facebook saying so. You can safely ignore this email. The API limit resets every hour.

Site Stacker Set-Up

  • Login to Site Stacker.
  • Go to the 'Site Planner' component.
  • Right-click on the 'Module' folder in Content Explorer and click 'Add Item'.
  • Add the 'API Keys' module and paste the App ID in the Facebook Key field and 'Close & Save'.
  • In the 'Site Plan' side, expand the 'All Pages' folder. Right-click on the folder and click 'View Assigned Content'.
  • Publish the module under the 'Assigned Content' level in the Site Plan side and select 'Load Scripts (in head)' as the position and 'Default' as the view.
