Creating a RSS Feed

  1. Open the RSS component by clicking on the RSS icon on the Site Stacker Desktop
  2. Click "Add" in the upper right corner of the component
  3. Now fill out the fields in the pop-up. Below are explanations of what each field in the pop up represents.
    1. Name - The name of your RSS feed. This will display in the Feed Name column of the component.
    2. Alias - This will impact where your users access your feed. If you give your feed the alias "test" then your feed will be available at yourdomain.org/rss/test
    3. Site - Choose the Site Stacker site that your RSS feed is going to be created for.
    4. Content Type - Choose the content type for the type of content items that you would like to display in your feed. For example, if you want to create a blog RSS feed first identify what content type your blog posts use and then choose that content type in this field. To identify the content type look at the content folder that houses the content items you want to display and make note of what is listed in the type column.
    5. Content Folder - Choose the folder that your content items reside in.
    6. Description - This may be displayed in certain RSS readers to explain to the viewer what this feed contains.
    7. Tags - You can limit the content items that will display in your feed by adding their unique tags here. For example, if you have chosen a folder of blog post content items, but only want to create a feed for video blog posts content items, you could choose the "video" tag to limit your feed to just those content items.
    8. Field Templates - This field allows you to choose how you would like your data rendered in your feed. If you are unsure of what field template to use, choose "Media". If you have any issues with your feed not displaying as you expect, please reach out to us.
    9. Title Field Alias - Select which field from your content type you would like to use as the feed item title.
    10. Description Field Alias - Select which field from your content type you would like to use as the feed item description.
    11. Content Field - Select which field from your content type you would like to use as the feed item content, or the "body" of your feed item.
    12. Image Field Alias - Select which field from your content type you would like to use as the feed item image. This is generally used by most RSS readers as the thumbnail.
    13. Additional Field(s) - We do not recommend using this field unless you have been instructed by us to use it.
    14. Order by - Choose what data you would like to order your feed from. The most common choice is "Publish Date(Content Item).
    15. Direction - Choose whether you want to ascend or descend based on your choice in order by. The most common choice is "Descend".
    16. Limit - Choose the amount of items that you would like rendered in your RSS feed at one time. We recommend choosing something like 25 or 50. This will help keep your feed quick and efficient.
  4. Once you have chosen your desired field settings click "Save & Close".
  5. You can now preview your RSS feed by navigating to yourdomain.org/rss/{your-feed-alias}
